The National Plant Collections are organised by Plant Heritage and Knoll Gardens is delighted to hold a National Plant Collection of Pennisetum on their behalf.
Pennisetum, or Fountain Grasses, are a large and widely distributed family of grasses, and the collection at Knoll concentrates on species and forms that are generally suitable for outdoor cultivation in the U.K. Most species in the Pennisetum collection have recently been reclassified as Cenchrus.
In order to fit with the gardens ethos and approach to planting design the collection is not grown all together but with each pennisetum being used as appropriate within the different garden areas. This gallery is therefore specifically intended to showcase the collection in one place.
